who we are
|
a new community of giving It's the human capital that makes a difference. It's financial resources, yes, but it's also passion and commitment that create results. At SVP DE, we are passionate proponents of our mission – to give every child in our state access to a strong pre-school program. Our partners get involved, in a hands-on way, to make meaningful grants, provide sound strategic advice, and focus on successful outcomes for each of our partner organizations.

our approach
|
|
venture philanthropy Venture–or engaged–philanthropy focuses on building stronger nonprofit organizations by developing management teams and boards, investing in outcome assessment, improving quality and delivery of services, and other strategic ways to improve effectiveness and increase scale. It requires a high level of involvement from both parties-the philanthropist and the nonprofit. It is a multi-year financial and human resources commitment that focuses on the long term growth of the organization as a result of the relationship.
SVP DE applies venture capital investment principles to charitable giving through:
strategic investment We seek out innovative, effective early childhood education programs in Delaware and provide funding over a three to five year period.
leveraging our support We partner with the groups we fund to provide the resources they need: management, accounting, legal, real estate and technical assistance. For every dollar we've contributed, our partners have generated five times that amount through their fundraising, grant writing, and ability to bring in additional resources from the community.
focus on results Each year we review the programs we support and work with them to improve and refine their services. more...

a record of accomplishment

True to the venture philanthropy model of giving, SVP DE has sought to make strategic investments that build the capacity of our partner organizations. Through these investments, we have helped make a difference in the lives of thousands of children in Delaware.
Since its inception in 2002, SVP DE has:
- Started preschool programs for 3- and 4-year-olds that serve over 80 students annually, 400 to date, who would not otherwise have had access to quality early education.
- Created summer programs at two schools serving 400 children annually, 2,000 to date.
- Facilitated the purchase of new campus buildings, allowing one school to increase its student body fivefold, from 50 to 280, and another to accept an additional 50 students per year. ...more
