True to the venture philanthropy model of giving, SVP DE has sought to make strategic investments that build the capacity of our partner organizations.  Through these investments, we have helped make a difference in the lives of thousands of children in Delaware.  Since its inception in 2002, SVP DE has:

  • Invested almost $1.5 million and over 15,000 volunteer hours in early childhood education programs in the state of Delaware.
  • Leveraged our support.  For every dollar we've contributed, our partners have generated five times that amount through their fund raising, grant writing and ability to bring in additional resources from the community.
  • Collaborated with Christina School District and LACC to bring innovative partnership to Pulaski School serving 20 preschool children annually.
  • Hosted professional strategic planning session for Investee, resulting in implementation of strategic plan for organization.
  • Started preschool programs for 3- and 4-year olds that serve over 80 students annually, 600 to date, who would not otherwise have had access to quality early education.
  • Partnered with Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children to design a Behavioral Health Consulting Program that provides on-site psychology residents at each partner school, and extensive resource to teachers and parents.
  • Facilitated the purchase of new campus buildings, allowing one school to increase its student body fivefold, from 50 to 280, and another to accept an additional 50 students per year.
  • Advocated for public policy changes to improve access to quality preschool by participating on the task force for the Delaware Early Care and Education Council.
  • Built new libraries and installed computer labs at partner schools.
  • Funded multiple teacher training and retention programs to improve quality of instruction, including the Teacher Education and Compensation Helps (T.E.A.C.H.) Early childhood scholarship program.
  • Partnered with Rodel Foundation of Delaware to fund the Delaware Parent Leadership Institute to encourage parent involvement at their children's schools.
  • Created summer programs at two schools serving 400 children annually, 2,800 to date.
  • Doubled the number of mentors at one school from 50 to 100.  Provided 200 new after-school tutors at another.
  • Provided board members to serve at each organization.
  • Provided funding for numerous cultural events, field trips and exciting learning experiences for students, families and teachers.
  • Provided new winter coats to over 1,500 children through partnership with Operation Warm.
