history
why early childhood education?

These problems are tough ones, but we know that quality early childhood education is part of the solution.A body of research shows that the years from birth to age five are the most critical in terms of a child's emotional, social and intellectual growth.By the age of five, the human brain has already developed 85% of its full capacity. We know that early learning experiences set the stage for a lifetime, yet 95% of public investment in education occurs after children reach this important developmental milestone. It's almost too late at that point. It's important to start earlier.

social return
Study after study proves there is no higher return on public investment than what is spent providing young children with early care and education.  The benefits accrue for years.  Quality pre-K programs have been shown to dramatically decrease criminal justice, welfare and special education costs, and to increase achievement test scores, graduation rates, and future income levels.  Early success begets later success.  It can help break the cycle of poverty once and for all.

For over 40 years, the Perry Preschool study has tracked the performance of low-income minority children in Michigan who completed this high quality preschool program.  The results, compared with a control group of children who did not participate, show that the benefits of early childhood education last a lifetime.
